Not all ferns grow well inside, as anyone who has tried to bring a big Boston fern inside for the winter knows. Many outdoor ferns are messy, drop leaves, and are too big for a miniature garden. Table ferns, Pteris spp., thrive in lower light, can live with lower humidity (but still grow well in terrariums), and don’t drop their leaves. Look for plants with different leaf shapes, colors, and textures to add variety to miniature gardens.
